Instituted 23 October 1942 retroactive to 1 December 1940 the badge was awarded to military and civilian drivers who distinguished themselves and who had taken exceptional care of their vehicles.  Also the badge was Dispatch Riders, Front-Line Supply Drivers, and Military Transport Drivers $27.50 mounted on feldgrau backing cloth.
